She wore
many hats.
Alice Joanne Stevens was an artist, a photographer, a potter, a jewelry maker—and a scout with a gift for finding what others might overlook.
She studied art at TCU in Fort Worth under artists including sculptor Harry Geffert. While working at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, she met Henry Hopkins, whose friendship and mentorship introduced her to the work of Edward Kienholz, Robert Irwin, Ed Moses, and Donald Judd.
Those influences helped move her work from organic forms toward a more architectural style. Her education included BA and MFA degrees in Metallurgy and Photography.
The scout who wore many hats +
Known as “Many Hats,” Alice worked as a location scout throughout Alpine and the Big Bend area of Far West Texas. She also worked as a location manager and talent scout, sourcing props and even livestock when needed. Her still photography included an unfinished portfolio of working cowboys.
Her fashion, commercial, film, and television projects included American Eagle Outfitters, Stardust Visions N.Y., Jesus in Laredo, Flying Saucer Films, Verizon Wireless, Moxie Pictures, Anthropologie, and Sierra Mist.
